2018 Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid: 680 horsepower!

Once again, the performance luxury brands are proving that electrified powertrains have to potential to substantially enhance both acceleration and fuel economy. The 2018 Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, which has just been revealed, becomes the second most powerful Porsche production car in history, behind the now-legendary 918 Spyder.

By combining a twin-turbo, 4.0-litre V8 with an electric motor, a dual-clutch, eight-speed automated transmission and all-wheel drive, this new version of the Panamera produces a cavalry of 680 horsepower and a massive 627 pound-feet of torque.

According to the manufacturer, the car can blast from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, and reach a top speed of 310 km/h. Let’s point out here that the Tesla Model S P100D can hit 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, according to its maker, but its top speed is limited to 250 km/h and its handling isn’t as impressive as the Panamera’s.

Based on European fuel consumption calculations, which are more optimistic than those in Canada and in the United States, the 2018 Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid consumes an average of 2.9 L/100 km. In addition, its driving range in fully electric mode is estimated at 50 kilometres. With a capacity of 14.1 kWh, the car’s lithium-ion battery pack can be fully charged in six hours. Or in 2.4 hours using the optional 7.2-kW charger and a 32-amp connection.

However, Porsche points out that they didn’t sacrifice passenger comfort for the sake of performance, as the car is equipped with an adjustable air suspension.

The 2018 Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid will be officially presented at the upcoming Geneva Auto Show, and should arrive in Canada this fall. Its price will be set at $209,800 for the regular-wheelbase version, while the long-wheelbase Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Executive will be priced at $221,700.
