2018 Volkswagen Arteon unveiled in Geneva

A new fastback sedan will join the German brand’s lineup later this year. The 2018 Volkswagen Arteon is a five-door, grand touring car that will be positioned above the midsize Passat.

Unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show, the Arteon boasts a sleek shape with a sloping roofline, giving it a dynamic look. LED headlights will be standard, and part of a highly detailed and aggressive front fascia. The car rides on a long wheelbase, according to the manufacturer, and will be built in Germany on the MQB platform that’s already on duty under several VW products, stretching from the Golf compact to the midsize 2018 Volkswagen Atlas SUV.

Six different powertrains will be available in the Arteon, including a 1.5 TSI EVO gasoline engine (148 horsepower), two 2.0 TSI variants (188 and 276 hp) as well as three 2.0 TDI diesel mills (148, 188 and 236 hp). In Canada, we’ll likely only get the most powerful, 276-hp engine matched to a seven-speed DSG automated transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel drive.

Available interior features should include a Discover Pro infotainment system with a 9.2-inch touchscreen and gesture control technology, adaptive cruise control, navigation, a climate control system, a driver alert system, Alcantara and leather seat upholstery and heated front seats. An R-Line package should also be offered, adding different 18-inch alloy wheels, high gloss back exterior finish, sportier bumpers and chromed exhaust tips.

Pricing has not been announced yet, but the 2018 Volkswagen Arteon should be on sale in Canada this fall.
