2018 Subaru Crosstrek Revealed in Geneva
Exactly one year ago, Japanese brand Subaru unveiled the XV Concept at the Geneva Auto Show, a preview of what the next-generation Crosstrek would look like. It was now the production version’s turn to take the stage in Switzerland.
Once again, the Crosstrek is based on the Subaru Impreza five-door that was totally redesigned last year. It rides on a new architecture called Subaru Global Platform, which the automaker claims is stronger than the previous-generation Impreza’s structure. It also provides improved handling characteristics as well as a more refined and quieter ride.

The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek can be identified by its 220-millimetre ground clearance, matte black body cladding and black roof spoiler. The little SUV will also receive new paint colours and alloy wheel designs. Inside, the Crosstrek will get orange contrast stitching on the instrument panel, an infotainment system with 8.0-inch touchscreen and a new steering wheel.
As is the case with the 2017 Subaru Impreza, the Crosstrek is equipped with a heavily revamped 2.0-litre, horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine. Gaining direct injection, the Boxer four develops 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. Transmission choices will include a five-speed manual and a continuously variable automatic, the latter featuring a manual mode with seven pre-programmed gear ratios. The brand’s X-MODE system, which offers an integrated control of the engine, the AWD system and the brakes on slippery surfaces, has now been integrated to the Crosstrek as well.
The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek should be on sale this fall.
