The Korean automaker has just revealed technical information regarding the fully electric version of its Kona urban SUV, which will probably hit the Canadian market within the coming year.

The Kona Electric's powertrain will produce 201 horsepower along with 291 pound-feet of torque, allowing the Kona to hit 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. The 64-kWh battery pack will provide a driving range estimated at 400 km, a few more kilometres than what the Chevrolet Bolt EV offers, and approximately 200 km more than what the Hyundai Ioniq Electric can achieve. Charging time on a 240-volt station is estimated at almost 10 hours.

We’ll be able to spot the Kona EV by its closed front grille, while the cockpit will boast a seven-inch touchscreen that will display the electric powertrain at work, in addition to serving as the infotainment system screen.

The Kona EV’s exact on-sale date and pricing haven’t yet been announced.
