Cadillac will Unveil a 550-horsepower CT6 V-Sport in New York
DETROIT, Michigan – When Cadillac showed a teaser image of its all-new XT4 crossover, which will be unveiled at the New York Auto Show, we weren’t exactly surprised. After all, we now live in a world of SUVs, and it was simply inevitable that General Motors’ luxury division would release a small utility vehicle within its model line.
What we didn’t expect was GM’s last-minute invitation to Detroit to attend the reveal of an all-new V8 engine. Why on God’s earth would Cadillac speak of such a motor one week before presenting a subcompact crossover?

A Twin-Turbo V8
Cadillac’s most interesting news this week isn’t the XT4, but rather that the high-performance V-Sport trim will expand to three vehicles in the brand’s lineup for the 2019 model year, including the CT6, the CTS, and XTS. And the CT6 V-Sport will be powered by an all-new twin-turbo, 4.2-litre V8 which, according to Cadillac, promises an output of 550 horsepower and 627 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine will be exclusive to Cadillac.
The CT6 V-Sport will be the first sedan to be offered with this powerhouse engine, and the one that will be presented in New York. For the first time since its introduction in 2016, Cadillac’s flagship sedan, the CT6, will be offered with a V8 option. Up to now, the car was only available with four- and six-cylinder engines.
A less powerful version of that same engine will also be available for the CT6, producing a “mere” 500 horsepower. Cadillac did not speak of torque numbers for this one during its presentation in Detroit.
The new V8, which will feature direct injection and cylinder deactivation technology, will be mated to an all-new, Hydra-Matic 10-speed automatic transmission, which should help improve the car’s performance and fuel economy. The package will only be available with all-wheel-drive, says Cadillac. Of course, we’ll be in New York to share with you as much information as possible about the exciting new CT6 V-Sport American sport sedan.
