2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback Revealed!
An all-new generation of the Corolla will make its debut at the New York Auto Show next week, which will replace the Corolla iM in Toyota’s lineup.
Of course, the five-door iM was introduced in Canada for the 2016 model year under the Scion banner, but after the brand disappeared, the car moved over to Toyota. However, it’s a European design, based on the Toyota Auris sold across the pond, and so is the new Corolla Hatchback.
Long story short, the 2019 Toyota Corolla is all-new and will ride on the company’s TNGA platform, which also underpins the Toyota Prius, the Toyota Camry and the Toyota C-HR, among other models. The car is slightly longer and wider than the iM, and its roofline is lower, too. Its exterior design is dynamic and well proportioned, with a more inclined backlight that reminds us of the Mazda3 Sport’s shape. Or even the Chevrolet Cruze’s rear-end styling.
Under the hood, we’ll get a new 2.0-litre four cylinder that will feature direct injection. Its output ratings haven’t been announced yet, but the engine is dubbed Dynamic-Force, and Toyota mentions a sportier suspension setup, so we’re expecting a certain level of driving dynamics. Compared to the Corolla iM, the company is also promising improved fuel economy. A six-speed manual transmission as well as a continuously variable automatic (CVT) with 10 pre-programmed gear ratios will be available.
The 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback will also boast a modern infotainment system, along with an optional 800-watt JBL stereo. The compact will also receive the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 2.0 suite which includes front precollision warning with autonomous emergency braking and pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and prevention, automatic high beams and, new this year, Lane Trace Assist. The latter will center the car in its lane by guiding itself with the painted lines or by following the vehicle ahead.
