2019 Audi RS 5 Sportback: World Debut at the New York Auto Show

Audi’s Sport Division has just introduced the RS 5 Sportback at the New York Auto Show. As the latest iteration of the RS 5, it’s got a more dynamic profile than the Coupe, thanks to a sloping roofline and its five-door configuration.

The RS 5 Sportback follows the RS 7’s example by offering a juiced-up version of an existing model. From a technical standpoint, the 2019 Audi RS 5 Sportback is virtually identical to the RS 5 Coupe, which means we can expect some fiery performance from the twin-turbo 2.9-litre V6 that pumps out 444 horsepower and 443 lb.-ft. of torque. This mill is paired with quattro all-wheel drive.

Just like the RS 5 Coupe, this vehicle connects to the ground by way of an RS sport suspension. Ground clearance is 7 millimetres lower than in the S5 Sportback. You can also opt for Dynamic Ride Control, a technology that uses steel coils and hydraulic dampers.

The vehicle flaunts a very sporty look, thanks in part to broader fenders that recall the Audi 90 quattro race car, known for tearing up the IMSA GT circuits in the late 1980s. There are also two oval tailpipes located on either side of the rear diffuser.

The new 2019 Audi RS 5 Sportback will be available in Canadian dealerships starting in the third quarter of 2018. Its price will only be released moments before it hits the market, but we’re guessing it will be in the same ballpark as the RS 5 Coupe, which is priced at $82,500.
