2019 Volvo V60: We're Driving it This Week

The Car Guide is on its way to Barcelona, Spain for the first drive of the new 2019 Volvo V60, which had its world premiere at the Geneva Auto Show and made its North-American debut at the New York Auto Show.

After its successful launch of the new XC40 subcompact SUV, the Swedish automaker revisits familiar territory with the new V60 which will hit the market ahead of the S60 sedan. After the S90 and V90, it’s now the V60 wagon’s turn to be developed on the SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform, Volvo adapting the SPA for each vehicle, depending on its size.

One thing is for sure: this wagon is a looker. Its attention-grabbing design is aligned with the Swedish brand’s most recent models, with an immediately obvious resemblance to the bigger V90. The new V60 is longer, wider, lower and comes with a longer wheelbase than the previous version, making it roomier for passengers, especially those in the back seats, and creating more cargo space.

The new 2019 Volvo V60 also features the Sensus infotainment system, whose colour touchscreen looks like a vertically oriented digital tablet. It also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. As is the case for all of Volvo’s recent models, the V60 is loaded with the brand’s most advanced safety systems.

Initially, the V60 will be offered in two trims, Momentum and Inscription, and will be powered by the supercharged and turbocharged, 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine developing 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The R-Design variant, as well as the plug-in hybrid T8 variant, will be added to the lineup at a later date. Circle back here in a few days to read our write-up on the new 2019 Volvo V60.
