The Aston Martin Valkyrie’s Engine: 1000 Horsepower and 11,100 rpm!

Aston Martin recently unveiled a few technical details of the engine that will equip the upcoming Valkyrie hypercar, and the company is promising the sensation of a 1990s F1 engine matched with modern technology.

The naturally aspirated, 6.5-litre V12, developed in collaboration with Cosworth, currently produces 1000 horsepower at 10 500 rpm, while the engine’s redline is set at a stratospheric 11 100 rpm. As for torque, it’s estimated at 546 pound-feet at 7 000 rpm. According to Aston, the 153.8 hp/L rating makes it the most powerful non-turbocharged engine ever installed in a production car that meets emissions requirements.

However, the Valkyrie will also be equipped with a hybrid electric system. Maximum output will thus be even higher, although the English brand hasn’t yet published these technical specifications.

The V12 engine is said to weight only 206 kilograms (454 pounds) and is a fully stressed element of the car’s structure. “To anyone with a drop of petrol in their blood, a high-revving naturally aspirated V12 is the absolute pinnacle. Nothing sounds better or encapsulates the emotion and excitement of the internal combustion engine more completely. Despite the apparently insurmountable challenges it presented, there was never any question that the Aston Martin Valkyrie would make do with anything less. From the outset, the team at Cosworth were unflinching in their commitment to achieving benchmarks which pushed the boundaries of the possible. The result is a quite extraordinary engine. One which I doubt will ever be surpassed.”

Only 150 units of the Aston Martin Valkyrie will be produced and delivered through 2019, while 25 units of the Valkyrie AMR Pro will be distributed to their new owners in 2020.
