This is What the 2020 Mitsubishi RVR Could Look Like

Published on February 12, 2019 in Geneva by William Clavey

The Geneva Auto Show is already fast approaching, and Mitsubishi is giving us a glimpse of some the vehicles it plans on displaying at the PalExpo, in Switzerland. Relatively unchanged since 2010, Mitsubishi RVR was long due for an overhaul.

An all-new model will therefore arrive next year, at least, according to the few images we received of this ASX, the RVR’s nameplate in other markets.

But is it New?

At first glance, especially when viewed from the rear, the 2020 RVR doesn’t seem to have changed all that much, except maybe the front fascia which mimics other products within Mitsubishi’s lineup, such as the Outlander and the Eclipse Cross.

The Japanese carmaker remains tight-lipped about its new subcompact SUV, revealing only a few photos and very little technical information. All we know for now is that it’ll be powered by a choice of 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre four-cylinder engines. A continuously variable automatic will be paired to both, and all-wheel drive will be optional.

However, we still can’t tell you which engine will power all four wheels.

Inside, things are just as conservative as the exterior, where very few changes seem to have been applied compared to the last-generation SUV. However, the infotainment system does appear entirely new, now incorporating a much larger screen and updated interface. Mitsubishi stipulates that the 2020 RVR will come available with all the latest safety tech, such as adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation and cross traffic monitoring, just to name a few.

Mitsubishi still hasn’t released pricing for the Canadian market, but the new SUV should arrive this fall. We’ll be in Geneva in order to tell you more as the 2020 ASX/RVR is unveiled to the public.
