New Buick Crossover in the Works

The Buick lineup is rapidly changing. In order to meet the needs and wants of modern consumers, the LaCrosse is being axed to leave the brand with just one sedan, the Regal, and a trio of crossovers including the Encore, Envision and Enclave.

As we saw last month, the next-generation Encore is coming and people should be excited about its larger dimensions and sleeker looks. Now, Buick designers are sculpting another crossover that will soon expand the portfolio.

According to Car Design News, which recently toured GM’s design studios in Warren, Michigan, a coupe-like clay model nicknamed the “Orange Car” sits alongside a similar model of a larger, four-door crossover with a sweeping roofline.

Bob Boniface, global director of exterior design at Buick, reportedly said the vehicle is a go for production. It will not replace any existing Buick model, but rather become the brand’s fourth crossover.

While we don’t have pictures to show you, it’s easy to imagine a vehicle that resembles the Buick Enspire concept (see the picture above), which was unveiled in Beijing last year. And you can probably take that name to the bank since GM filed a U.S. trademark application for it.

A much sportier-looking Buick crossover sounds pretty good, although performance is pure speculation at this point. Many expect a variety of powertrains to be offered, one of which will likely be based on the automaker’s new EV architecture that’s due to arrive in 2021.
