Porsche Recalls 340,000 Cayenne, Panamera Models Globally

Earlier this month, Porsche announced a recall on 8,742 vehicles in Canada to fix a problem with the transmission. We didn’t pay much attention to it at the time, but now we’ve learned that more than 340,000 Porsches are being recalled around the world for the exact same issue.

In some cases, due to degradation of a bushing over time, the shifter could literally detach from the transmission, causing the latter not to shift gears when the shifter is moved. As a result, the transmission could be in a different gear than the shifter indicates.

If a driver attempts to exit the vehicle while the transmission is not in Park, and the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle could move suddenly. That’s pretty serious.

Affected models include the 2003-2010 Porsche Cayenne, 2003-2006 Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo, as well as the 2010-2016 Panamera, Panamera 4, Panamera 4S and Panamera Turbo.

Porsche Canada will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the shifter cable bushing. Until then, it’s best to use the parking brake whenever the vehicle is parked.
