Is the Cadillac Escalade Going All-electric?
As previously reported, all of GM’s full-size SUVs will be redesigned for the 2021 model year. That includes the Cadillac Escalade, of course.
Built on the new T1XX body-on-frame platform, which also underpins the automaker’s full-size pickups, the Escalade is expected to return with a 420-horsepower 6.2-litre V8 engine. Some have speculated that the twin-turbocharged 4.2-litre Blackwing V8 could find its way under the hood, as well, boosting output to around 550 horsepower.

But what if there were a third option offering even quicker acceleration and improved efficiency? Can you imagine an electric Cadillac Escalade?
With the brand poised to spearhead future EV efforts by GM, multiple sources familiar with product plans have confirmed to a brand-enthusiast and industry-insider site called Cadillac Society that a zero-emission version of the Escalade is in the works.
While still in the early stages of development, the project reportedly involves the same BEV3 electric vehicle platform that will underpin another new SUV from Cadillac, which was announced at the beginning of the year in Detroit, as well as the future all-electric pickup GM is preparing.
No technical specs were mentioned in the Cadillac Society report other than a range of about 640 kilometres—way more than any other electric SUV on the market right now. Considering the size of the Escalade, that would require a gigantic battery to say the least.
Pricing should start well above the most expensive Escalade model currently in the lineup, which carries a base MSRP of $110,295.
