Hyundai to Unveil Pony-inspired EV Concept in Frankfurt

Published on August 22, 2019 in Frankfurt by Guillaume Rivard

The Frankfurt Auto Show kicks off in less than a month (September 10-22) and one of the new vehicles we’ll be focusing on is a fully electric concept designed by Hyundai.

Simply called “45,” this model will illustrate the styling direction of the Korean brand for its future cars.

Why 45? The press release says the concept is inspired by the first Hyundai vehicle launched in the 1970s. That would be the famous Pony, which is about to celebrate its 45th anniversary.

Hyundai is using the same approach as Honda, which looked way back into the past to develop the new Honda e. In fact, the latter is expected to be unveiled in production form in Frankfurt, two years after the original Urban EV concept made its debut.

The Korean automaker claims that the 45 explores the evolution of its ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language. ‘Sensuous’ stands for enhanced emotional values that customers can experience through design, and ‘Sportiness’ is determined to implement those values through innovative mobility solutions.

No additional information was given and the two images you see here are the only ones we have. We’ll find out everything there is to know on September 10.

Let’s remind you that Hyundai currently sells fully electric variants of the IONIQ and Kona. The hydrogen-powered Nexo fuel-cell vehicle will follow at a later date.
