Hop in the New Porsche Taycan for a Record Lap at the Nürburgring

Last week, Porsche was kind enough to reveal the interior of the new 2020 Taycan before its official debut on September 4.

Now, we even get a chance to see what it’s like to ride shotgun in the company’s brand new electric sports car as it laps the 20.6-kilometre Nürburgring-Nordschleife in seven minutes and 42 seconds.

By the way, this lap time marks a new record for four-door electric vehicles at the legendary German track, famously known as the Green Hell.

“The Taycan is also suitable for race tracks and it convincingly proved that here on the world’s most challenging circuit,” explains test driver Lars Kern, who drove a pre-production Taycan. “Again and again, I am impressed at how stable the all-electric sports car handles in high-speed sections and how neutrally it accelerates from tight sections.”

Many factors contribute to the Porsche Taycan’s performance and the efficiency of the powertrain at high speeds. These include the chassis systems that react within a fraction of a second (thanks to Porsche 4D-Chassis Control) as well as the outstanding aerodynamics.

Earlier this month, the Taycan proved its long-distance qualities when it covered 3,425 kilometres in 24 hours at the Nardò test facility in Italy, maintaining an average speed between 195 and 215 km/h.

And in another endurance test at the end of July, the car sprinted from 0-200 km/h no fewer than 26 successive times down an airport runway. The average acceleration figure from the timed runs was under 10 seconds.
