Nissan Versa Sedan is Back in Canada for 2021

On the eve of the 2020 Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, Nissan unveiled the 2021 Versa and announced plans to sell it on this side of the border starting this summer.

The four-door Versa, which Nissan dropped in Canada several years ago to make more room for the Versa Note, Micra and Sentra, launched in the U.S. last year as a next-generation model.

Built on the same platform as the Kicks crossover, the 2021 Nissan Versa also uses the same engine, namely a 1.6-litre four-cylinder rated at 122 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque. The difference is that a five-speed manual transmission comes standard. A CVT is optional.

Nissan Canada president Steve Milette told us the trunk has a capacity of 425 litres, which is huge for a sub-compact sedan. He also talked about a new level of refinement with a dramatic design and safety features not usually found in the segment.

With the Nissan Safety Shield 360, Intelligent Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Rear Intelligent Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning and High Beam Assist all come standard. Available features include Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross traffic Alert.

Canadian pricing and fuel consumption ratings have yet to be announced. In the U.S., the car achieves the equivalent of 7.4 L/100 km in the city and 5.9 L/100 km on the highway.

Full equipment details for the 2021 Nissan Versa will be provided closer to its market launch in late summer of this year. As for the Versa Note hatchback, it is not returning for 2020.
