2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cranked up to 641 Horsepower

The next-generation 2020 Porsche 911 continues to bolster its lineup. This time, we’re talking about the cream of the crop, the 2021 911 Turbo S.

Once again available in coupe and cabriolet variants, this phenomenal sports car boasts a new twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre flat-six engine that produces 641 horsepower, up 61 hp from its predecessor. Maximum torque now reaches 590 pound-feet, an increase of 36 lb-ft.

When mated to the Turbo-specific eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, the sprint from 0-100 km/h is down to 2.7 seconds, or two tenths quicker than before (one tenth quicker than the 700-horsepower GT2 RS), while acceleration from 0-200 km/h is completed in 8.9 seconds, an improvement of a full second. Top speed is unchanged at 330 km/h.

Physically, the new 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S is 45 millimetres wider up front and 20 millimetres wider in the rear. A redesigned, pneumatically controlled front spoiler and controlled air flaps at the front enhance aerodynamics, while a larger rear spoiler produces 15 percent more downforce. The air intakes are larger, too, improving engine cooling and performance as a result.

Another key upgrade is the set of mixed tires in two different sizes. For the first time the Turbo S has 20-inch (255/35) front tires and 21-inch (315/30) rear tires. They wrap two-tone light-alloy wheels in Turbo design.

The new generation of the standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) chassis utilizes faster and more precisely controlled dampers that provide significant advantages to the driving dynamics with respect to roll stability, road holding, steering behaviour and cornering speeds, Porsche claims.

Optional is a sport chassis that lowers the ride height by 10 millimetres, not to mention a sport exhaust system with adjustable flaps that delivers a distinctive sound.

What about the cockpit? The standard equipment list includes a full leather interior and carbon trim in combination with Light Silver accents. By the way, the 18-way power adjustable sport seats feature stitching that pays homage to the first 911 Turbo (type 930). The car also stands out with unique, high-quality graphic elements and logos in the instrument cluster, a GT sport steering wheel, a standard Sport Chrono package with newly integrated Porsche Track Precision app and a BOSE Surround Sound system.

The 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S will be available to order next month starting at $231,700 for the coupe and $246,300 for the cabriolet.
