2021 Ford Bronco Sport Leaked Ahead of April Debut

Published on March 9, 2020 in News by Guillaume Rivard

The launch of the highly anticipated 2021 Ford Bronco is supposed to take place at a special event later this month (unless coronavirus concerns affect Ford’s plans).

As you know, this Ranger-based off-road SUV will have a smaller, more urban-oriented variant built on the Escape platform. It’s been known for a long time as the “Baby Bronco” before all sorts of names started flying around including Bronco Scout, Bronco Adventurer and more recently Bronco Maverick.

However, it looks like that model will be called “Bronco Sport,” after all.

How do we know that? Three pictures of what appears to be the Bronco Sport in production form were leaked just a few hours ago and posted on an enthusiast website, BroncoSportForum.com—well before the official premiere set for April, likely at the New York Auto Show.

The name is stamped to the rear hatch in big, block letters. By the way, the liftgate seems to incorporate an articulated window based on the concealed hinges at the top.

The side view clearly shows the boxy exterior, raised roof rails and lower-body cladding. Up front, the rugged-looking grille features the “Bronco” name in the middle and connects with the circular headlights via an LED strip that must serve as daytime running lights.

Customers will have a choice of a two-tone exterior like this blue sample with black pillars and roof panels.

On the leaked pictures, the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport looks more like a compact SUV than a sub-compact model, which means direct competition would come from the Jeep Cherokee rather than the Compass and Renegade, for example. We need further details to confirm this, however.

Keep following The Car Guide through the end of winter and into spring to learn more about the new Bronco Sport and its big brother, the Bronco!
