The Car Guide’s 2020 Best Buys: Hyundai Kona
Every year, The Car Guide publishes its Best Buys in nearly 30 different vehicle categories. Today we continue our review of the 2020 winners with a look at subcompact SUVs, definitely one of the hottest market segments in the auto industry for the past couple of years.
The Hyundai Kona (MSRP from $21,249) successfully defends its title and is our Best Buy again for 2020.

This little Korean vehicle continues to catch our attention with its unique design including a bright colour palette, fun driving experience and very interesting list of features for the asking price.
It’s available with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that develops 147 horsepower, or an available 1.6-litre turbo producing 176 horsepower. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are offered, too.
And let’s not forget the Kona Electric, which boasts a 201-horsepower motor and delivers a range of 415 kilometres with a full battery.
In second place in the subcompact SUV segment, we find the Subaru Crosstrek (MSRP from $23,795). This one features standard all-wheel drive, superior off-road capability and good fuel economy versus many direct competitors.
Finally, the bronze medal goes to the Nissan Qashqai (MSRP from $21,498), which offers a spacious and versatile cabin with generous cargo room. Several advanced safety systems are available.
