2021 MINI Countryman Is Jazzed up Inside and Out

Published on May 27, 2020 in News by Guillaume Rivard

The MINI Countryman, whose current generation dates back to 2017, is getting a number of tweaks, improvements and additional options for the 2021 model year. Nothing major, mind you, but enough to satisfy fans of the British brand.

Let’s start with the exterior, where you’ll notice a redesigned front grille, new standard LED headlights and fog lights, LED taillights in Union Jack design, new light alloy wheels and new body finishes including a Piano Black option.

The cockpit boasts a new 8.8-inch centre screen with touch-sensitive bookmarks and Piano Black trim as standard. MINI says the audio control panel, the buttons for hazard lights and the driver assistance systems are now integrated more seamlessly. Elsewhere, a five-inch colour instrument display is available behind the sport steering wheel.

For those who want to add more flair to the interior of the 2021 Countryman, a new version of the highly exclusive MINI Yours interior surfaces is optional across the line. Malt Brown Chester leather has been newly added to the selection of seat upholstery options, as well. Oh, and the portfolio of Original MINI Accessories has been expanded.

Other than that, there’s not much change. The lineup still consists of four models including Countryman, Countryman S, John Cooper Works Countryman and Countryman SE (plug-in hybrid). The first three range from 134 to 301 horsepower and use an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the greener variant delivers 220 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque but must settle for a six-speed autobox for some reason. The ALL4 all-wheel drive system comes standard no matter which Countryman you choose.

The updated 2021 MINI Countryman will arrive in Canadian showrooms later this summer. More information such as pricing and fuel consumption ratings will be announced closer to launch. In the meantime, you can watch this review of the 2018 MINI Countryman S E:
