2021 Acura RDX PMC Edition: Orange is the New Black
Not all special editions deserve to make headlines, but since the Acura RDX is the Japanese brand’s most popular model, we can certainly talk to you about the RDX PMC Edition that will join the lineup for 2021.
Similar to the NSX supercar, the TLX sedan and the MDX midsize SUV, Acura’s compact SUV is getting a new version that is hand assembled by master technicians at the company’s Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC) in Ohio.
The highlight, of course, is the Thermal Orange Pearl body, a striking premium paint offered on NSX since 2019. Acura explains the paint is applied using PMC's advanced robotic paint system in multiple base coats to enhance colour intensity. Next, a mid-coat of gold and orange mica is applied giving off a pearlescent effect in the sunlight. Finally, four layers of clearcoat are applied to increase the paint's luster and protect the finish.
Other exclusive touches include gloss black 20-inch split-5-spoke wheels, gloss black roof, mirror caps and door handles, gloss black Diamond Pentagon grille with body-coloured surround, dual black chrome exhaust finishers, orange stitching inside and a PMC Edition numbered serial plate on the centre console.
As a top-line model, the RDX PMC Edition combines the premium features from the RDX Platinum Elite Package with the sporty styling cues of the RDX A-Spec. Look for a 10.5-inch colour head-up display, 16-way power-adjustable sport seats trimmed in Ebony Milano leather and Ultrasuede, a heated steering wheel and heated outboard rear seats.
There are no modifications to the 272-horsepower turbo engine, however. Acura’s torque-vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) naturally comes standard.
If you’re interested, you’d better hurry. The 2021 Acura RDX PMC Edition will have a limited production run of 360 units for North America, including 30 for Canada that will be sold at around $58,000 apiece. Customer deliveries will begin this November.
