2022 Acura MDX Goes on Sale Next Week, Pricing is Up

The wait is almost over for customers looking to purchase the all-new 2022 Acura MDX. Following the reveal of the fourth-generation model in December, the popular luxury SUV will go on sale at Canadian Acura dealers on February 12.

It can’t come soon enough, though. In recent years, German rivals including the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE have surpassed the MDX in terms of popularity. Even its little brother, the RDX, is a bigger star now, selling twice as many units.

Seeking to regain its flagship status within the Acura lineup and the three-row luxury SUV segment, the completely redesigned and re-engineered 2022 MDX benefits from a new, more rigid platform and offers more style, refinement and performance than ever before. You may have started to see it in an ad set to the soundtrack of Queen’s Tear It Up—it certainly looks impressive.

Four trim levels are available. The base MDX starts at $56,405 plus destination and handling charges of $2,075. It boasts a 3.5-litre V6 generating 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque through a 10-speed automatic gearbox, next-generation SH-AWD system, drive mode selector (Snow, Comfort, Normal, Sport, Individual), and 19-inch wheels. The chassis incorporates an MDX-first double-wishbone front suspension.

Standard content includes a panoramic roof, removable second-row middle seat, 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch ultra-wide HD centre display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa Built-in, wireless charging pad, and Traffic Jam Assist.

A 16-speaker, 710-watt ELS STUDIO 3D premium audio system is available on select models, just like the CabinTalk feature which amplifies the voices of front-seat passengers so they can be better heard in the second and third rows.

The Technology Package (soft-touch Milano leather seating surfaces with contrast stitching, ambient lighting, Low Speed Brake Control, etc.) bumps the price to $60,405. The sportier-looking MDX A-SPEC retails from $63,405, and if you select the Platinum Elite Package (power-adjusting side bolsters and thigh extensions, full-colour head-up display, etc.), expect to pay at least $67,405.

Also, remember that a high-performance MDX Type S is coming. It will arrive at dealerships in late summer, with pricing to be announced closer to launch.

Beyond the exclusive 21-inch wheels, open diamond mesh grille and quad exhaust outlets, the highlight of this model is arguably the new turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 producing an estimated 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque—similar to the upcoming 2021 TLX Type S. There’s additional braking power, too, in the form of four-piston Brembo front brakes.

And what about the MDX Sport Hybrid? It’s not coming back, at least not anytime soon.
