What’s New?
The 2021 Subaru Impreza is even more pleasant to drive in winter with a heated steering wheel now included as standard on Touring and higher trim levels. In addition, safety is increased with fully automatic headlights and fog lights across the line.
Just One Engine… But That Could Change
The Subaru Impreza continues to rely on a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. It can be mated to a five-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT) called Lineartronic.
Sooner or later, though, we figure the Impreza will end up offering a more potent option just like its big brother, the Crosstrek, does for 2021. We’re talking about a 2.5-litre unit that generates 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. This would nicely fill the gap between the base Impreza and the sporty WRX (268 horsepower).
Like a Guardian Angel
The Impreza offers Subaru EyeSight driver assist technology, which includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure and sway warning, as well as lane-keep assist, on all trims when equipped with the Lineartronic CVT.
It’s yet another reason why manual gearboxes are less popular nowadays.
Connected Car
Subaru Starlink Connected Services are included on nearly all Impreza models. Using the nationwide cellular network, separate from your mobile device, they allow you to stay connected to your vehicle while also providing assistance in various situations.
Advanced Automatic Collision Notification in the event of a collision, SOS Emergency Assistance, Enhanced Roadside Assistance and Concierge Service are all part of the plan. You can also receive automatic emergency assistance in the event of a collision, schedule service appointments, start your engine remotely (with the CVT), adjust climate control, remotely lock or unlock the doors, and locate your vehicle.
Still Under $20,000
New vehicles under $20,000 are increasingly rare now, but the 2021 Subaru Impreza retains a very attractive base price of $19,995 (plus freight and delivery) The five-door model is always $1,000 more expensive than the sedan.
The top-line Sport-tech with EyeSight is priced from $30,795 and stands out with 18-inch alloy wheels, leather seating, dual-zone automatic climate control, an eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio system and an eight-inch infotainment system with GPS navigation.
