GMC Sierra to Offer Super Cruise Tech by 2022
The GMC Sierra 1500 is our Best Buy for 2021 in the large pickup segment and it doesn’t have many reasons to envy the competition. However, there’s one area where the brand needs to catch up.
As we’ve just found out, the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system that is so far exclusive to Cadillac models will be available in the 2022 Sierra 1500 Denali—a direct response by GM to the new 2021 Ford F-150’s optional hands-free Active Drive Assist technology.

The most recent version of Super Cruise, which allows automated lane changes on the highway (all the driver has to do is to tap or fully latch the turn signal left or right, prompting the vehicle to change lanes on its own), is compatible with a total of more than 300,000 kilometres of divided highways in Canada and the U.S.
In the case of the Sierra 1500, the system will include the ability to trailer while driving hands free, which is even better news.
Obviously, if the driver attention system detects the driver has turned their gaze away from the road ahead for too long (using infrared lights and a small camera located on the top of the steering column), the steering wheel light bar will prompt the driver to return their attention to the road.
As previously reported, the upcoming GMC Hummer EV will also offer Super Cruise. In fact, General Motors plans to expand the technology to 22 models by 2023, including ten by 2022. The Chevrolet Silverado will likely be among those, too.
