SRT is No More, But Here's Why It Might Actually Be Good News

While Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares says he wants to give all 14 FCA-PSA brands a chance to shine going forward, it’s the opposite for the Street and Racing Technology (SRT) performance division.

Mopar Insiders has received confirmation from a Stellantis spokesperson that the SRT team is being disbanded, putting an end to weeks of speculation.

Unlike Chrysler and Dodge, SRT doesn’t have any unique models or separate dealerships.

It’s not the end of SRT vehicles, mind you.

"All of the core elements of the SRT performance engineering team have been integrated into our company's global engineering organization," Stellantis explained in a statement.

In other words, SRT engineers will simply now work within other brands, such as Dodge, Jeep and Ram.

The newly formed automaker claims the move will help ensure that its SRT-branded and performance-focused products continue to meet the highest quality standards and expectations.

More importantly, perhaps, this opens the door to SRT or high-performance models being developed and sold by other Stellantis brands in the future. So, it might actually be a good thing.

On the other hand, Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis recently confessed that the days of the Hellcat V8 are numbered and that electrification will play a bigger role in the next few years. Fans of American muscle cars need to prepare for major changes no matter what.
