Criminals, Look Out: 2021 Ford F-150 Police Responder is Faster, More Capable

The Ford F-150 is all-new for 2021 and that means police departments across North America will soon have a new weapon to enforce the law.

The F-150 Police Responder is the only purpose-built, pursuit-rated pickup truck on the market and it features increased capability.

Based on the 2021 F-150 SuperCrew, the pickup’s standard 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine produces 400 horsepower, and its 500 pound-feet of torque trumps all pursuit-rated police vehicles. The engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and both are uniquely calibrated to meet police requirements. Top speed has been increased to 193 km/h.

The F-150 Police Responder rides on Goodyear LT265/70R18 LRC BSW Wrangler Enforcer all-terrain tires specially developed to handle fast acceleration and aggressive cornering on and off the road.

A new torque-on-demand transfer case includes 4-Auto mode, which bridges the gap between 2-High and 4-High. An electrically actuated clutch automatically optimizes torque distribution in real time.

A great addition is the available Police Engine Idle system, which lets officers remove the key from the ignition and securely exit the truck with the engine running. They can continue to power lights and sirens without worrying about somebody potentially stealing the vehicle.

Inside the cabin, SYNC 4 with cloud connectivity is standard. The system includes an eight-inch touchscreen and an embedded modem with wireless updates,

For departments that need to tow a boat, horse trailer, mobile command centre or other equipment, the new F-150 Police Responder offers a standard towing capacity of 7,000 pounds and available towing capacity of 11,200 pounds, in addition to its payload of 2,030 pounds.

Ford is opening government order banks in April, with the first units arriving in fleets this fall. Production will take place in Claycomo, Missouri.
