Refreshed 2022 Lexus ES Adds F SPORT Model, More Tech
The Lexus ES midsize sedan was completely redesigned for 2019, so the current generation was due for a mid-cycle update. This is it.
On the outside, three body colours have been eliminated and two others are new for 2022 including Iridium and Cloudburst Grey. There’s a new grille pattern on all trims, with a series of concentric “L” shapes that radiate from the Lexus emblem, all finished in a new Graphite paint. This is complemented by new-look LED headlights and alloy wheels.

For 2022, the first-ever Lexus ES F SPORT will offer luxury sedan enthusiasts more choice with a revised grade strategy that separates style and performance enhancements. The ES 250 AWD and ES 350 will continue to be offered in F SPORT trim. ES F SPORT models get exclusive 19-inch split-five-spoke alloy wheels with a new Black finish.
Not Just More Handsome
The updated 2022 Lexus ES also builds on the strides made with Lexus Driving Signature, an engineering concept developed at the new technical centre in Shimoyama, Japan and inaugurated on the IS and IS 500.
Performance upgrades include a new rear suspension member brace to further enhance torsional rigidity and handling stability, as well as a significantly revised braking system and pedal on both gas and hybrid models.
Inside, the standard eight-inch and available 12.3-inch multimedia displays have been moved forward 11 centimetres and now feature touch-screen functionality. The awful touchpad remains on the centre console, however, as if Lexus didn’t want to admit it was a mistake to begin with. A streamlined instrument panel design is part of the cabin, too, while new Black Open Pore wood trim accents are available.
Extra Safety
Providing further peace of mind to everyone on board, the Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 has been upgraded to 2.5. In particular, the single-lens camera and millimeter-wave radar elements of the Pre-Collision System (PCS) received enhancements to expand the response range, detecting even a preceding pedestrian in daytime and low-light conditions.
Intersection Turning Assist and Emergency Steering Assist are new PCS functions, the latter designed to help prevent lane departure as cued by the driver during an emergency evasive steering manoeuvre. All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Lane Tracing Assist have also been improved.
The 2022 Lexus ES is expected to arrive in dealerships this fall. More information on pricing and options will be announced closer to launch.
