2022 Ford GT Heritage Edition Honours 1964 Prototype
The 2022 model year marks the end of the Ford GT supercar’s run. As a fitting farewell, the company is introducing a limited-edition model inspired by the 1964 Ford GT prototype that debuted at the New York International Auto Show on April 3, 1964 and went on to become America’s only Le Mans-winning supercar.
“There are a lot of milestone moments in the history of Ford GT that we’ve celebrated, but the team was unanimous in believing the original prototype was the right vehicle this time around,” said Mike Severson, Ford GT program manager. “That 1964 prototype unleashed the creative genius of the Ford Advanced Vehicles team and paved the way for the Ford GT program. It put all of this in motion.”

The 2022 Ford GT ’64 Prototype Heritage Edition is in fact sharing the spotlight at Monterey Car Week with the only remaining 1964 Ford GT prototype still wearing the original livery.
The car wears Wimbledon White paint with Antimatter Blue graphics, including an over-the-roof triple racing stripe. This is complemented by exposed carbon fibre components such as 20-inch Antimatter Blue-painted carbon fibre wheels, as well as an exposed carbon fibre front splitter, side sills, mirror stalks, engine louvers and rear diffuser finished in gloss. Brembo brake callipers lacquered in silver with black graphics add another distinctive touch.
Inside, you’ll find carbon fibre door sills, lower A-pillars and console, while the seats are appointed in Lightspeed Blue Alcantara with silver stitching and embossed GT logos. The instrument panel is wrapped in Ebony leather and Lightspeed Blue Alcantara, while the Antimatter Blue accents on the instrument panel, door register bezels and seat X-brace are coordinated with the unique wheels. The steering wheel is finished in Ebony Alcantara with black stitching.
There are no mechanical changes, as is usually the case with these limited models. The 2022 Ford GT ’64 Prototype Heritage Edition retains the same twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 engine that produces 660 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque.
Production is scheduled to begin in January. This is the sixth in the ultra-limited-production series, and it follows the 2021 Ford GT ’66 Daytona Heritage Edition honouring the Ford GT MK II No. 98 race car that won the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1966.
