Bugatti Bolide Confirmed With 40-unit Run, Reasonable Price
Bugatti unveiled the Bolide as a one-of-a-kind experimental vehicle in October 2020. With potential customers showing a ton of interest, work on a production version has now begun, the French automaker has confirmed.
Only 40 units of this extremely lightweight and track-only machine will be built and delivered… in 2024.

“The Bolide generated a great deal of enthusiasm and intrigue last year. Following its presentation, a significant number of enthusiasts and collectors asked us to develop the experimental Bolide as a production vehicle. I was absolutely amazed by the reactions and feedback from customers from all over the world,” explained Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti. “We therefore decided to make the Bolide a few-off in order to give 40 customers the opportunity to experience this incredible vehicle. Our team has now been developing a production model—the ultimate driving machine for the track.”
Pricing before taxes and other fees is set at 4 million euros, which is the equivalent of $5.9 million CAD at the current exchange rate. That’s pretty reasonable for the most extreme configuration level of the legendary quad-turbo 8.0-litre W16 engine and a must-have for Bugatti collectors.
After all, La Voiture Noire was sold for 11 million euros ($16 million). The Divo, which was also limited to 40 units, had a base price of 5 million euros ($7.4 million).
“For me, being able to turn the radical thought experiment of the Bolide into reality as a production vehicle is a dream come true as it is by far the most challenging project of my 17-year Bugatti career,” said Achim Anscheidt, director of design at Bugatti.
The production Bugatti Bolide will be significantly heavier and less powerful than the concept, mind you. The latter tipped the scales at 1,240 kilograms and could generate up to 1,825 horsepower using 110-octane racing fuel. Engineers are now targeting a weight of 1,450 kilograms and output of 1,578 horsepower with 98-octane pump gas. The car is still expected to top 500 km/h and therefore eclipse the Chiron Super Sport 300+.
“We are proud to have succeeded in keeping the production vehicle so close to its technical demonstrator both visually and technically while also enhancing the design, quality and vehicle safety,” Winkelmann claims, adding that customers will be offered exclusive track days to test their Bolide in a safe environment and gradually learn to enjoy its breathtaking performance.
