Ford Maverick Has Over 100,000 Reservations So Far
In case you still had doubts that the new 2022 Ford Maverick would be a hit, consider this: the automaker has already received more than 100,000 reservations across the continent since the model’s debut on June 8.
The Maverick is a small pickup that makes a big statement with a standard hybrid powertrain and an extremely compelling base price of just $25,900 in Canada.

Of course, reservations don’t always turn into actual sales. And unlike the Mustang Mach-E, Bronco and F-150 Lightning, no deposit is required for the Maverick and the reservation is non-binding.
However, even if three quarters of the people who have shown their interest end up cancelling their reservation, Ford will still have sold 25,000 units in less than three months—before the Maverick even showed up in dealerships.
Clearly, there is strong consumer demand for a small, affordable pickup. The Maverick will even win over drivers who have never considered a truck until now. And that’s despite its unibody construction and FWD-only base trim. Ford is claiming a 5.9 L/100 km city rating, by the way.
Incidentally, Bloomberg reports that a fair share of Maverick reservation holders come from large urban centres in California, Texas and Florida.
Increased Production for F-150 Lightning
Meanwhile, the electric F-150 has collected over 120,000 reservations so far. Deliveries are scheduled to begin no earlier than next spring.
According to several people and suppliers familiar with Ford’s plans that spoke to Automotive News, annual production will increase to 80,000 units in 2024, up from the previous target of more than 40,000. Before that, Ford reportedly aims to build about 15,000 next year and 55,000 in 2023.
Following the launch of the second generation, likely due in late 2025, the annual target will be just shy of 160,000.
