Volkswagen ID.4 AWD Pro to Provide 386 Km of Range

Published on September 15, 2021 in Electric by Guillaume Rivard

The all-new Volkswagen ID.4 is a promising and highly attractive electric SUV. Heck, it won the 2021 World Car of the Year award.

The base Pro model with rear-wheel drive features a large 82-kWh battery that provides an official range of 400 kilometres according to Natural Resources Canada. But since we live in Canada and driving conditions can be challenging, especially in winter, many customers will naturally turn to the dual-motor AWD Pro variant.

Luckily, the battery is the same and range is barely affected, dropping to 386 kilometres—a difference of just 14 kilometres.

If you look at other AWD-equipped electric SUVs, the Volvo XC40 Recharge is rated at 335 kilometres, the Ford Mustang Mach-E can travel 340 or 435 kilometres depending on the battery you select, and the Tesla Model Y is still the king with 525 kilometres of range. The exact numbers for the upcoming Nissan Ariya, Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6 have yet to be announced.

Let’s go back to the Volkswagen ID.4. Canadian pricing starts at $44,995 in Pro trim or $49,995 in AWD Pro trim. Both are eligible to the $5,000 rebate from the federal government. Customers in Quebec and British Columbia receive an additional $8,000 or $3,000, respectively. Ontario is the only other province where the ID.4 can be ordered right now.

By the way, the AWD model has a bit more content and also a lot more gusto with 302 horsepower vs. 201 horsepower for the base RWD model.
