2022 Kia Sorento PHEV Starts at Under $45K, Has Decent Range
In addition to a pair of gasoline engines, the new Kia Sorento is adding hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants to its lineup for 2022. The latter, which premieres at the Montreal Electric Vehicle Show this weekend, is the first to go on sale in Canada.

The 2022 Kia Sorento PHEV is available now in dealerships with three trim levels to choose from:
- EX PHEV – MSRP starting at $44,995
- EX+ PHEV – MSRP starting at $50,595
- SX PHEV – MSRP starting at $54,995
All models come standard with all-wheel drive, an electronically controlled transmission with drive mode selector and a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine mated to a 66.9-kW electric motor. They generate 261 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque while enabling up to 51 kilometres of zero-emission driving.
Aesthetically, the Sorento PHEV stands out with new 19-inch wheel designs and a charging port on the rear right fender. A panoramic roof can be found on upper trims.
Inside, there are seven seats including two captain’s chairs in the second row. New Marine Blue or Light Grey leather is available (SX models only), as is ambient lightning. The infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is either 8 or 10.25 inches depending on the model, and it provides information about the battery and charging process. Only the SX gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and head-up display.
The package of advanced safety systems includes forward collision avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, available blind spot assist and rear collision avoidance assist. Other technologies like safe exit assist, navigation-controlled intelligent cruise control and highway driving assist are also available.
As for the Sorento Hybrid, it will launch later this fall with pricing to be announced soon. This variant boasts 227 horsepower, 258 pound-feet of torque and fuel consumption ratings of 6.4 L/100 km in the city and 7.0 L/100km on the highway.
