Ontario Driver Pulled Over with Cardboard Licence Plate

Earlier this week, a motorist was spotted by the Ontario Provincial Police with what seemed to be a (very) homemade cardboard licence plate. The driver had drawn the numbers and letters by hand with a felt pen, and had used the original plate screws to keep the makeshift plate in place while driving on the streets of Caledonia, Ontario on board what seems to be a black Dodge Grand Caravan minivan.

“The appropriate charges were laid and the vehicle was removed from the roadway,” said the O.P.P. West Region in a tweet on Monday.

As of July 1, the fine for not having a plate on a vehicle in Ontario is $85. Drivers can also be fined $140 if they are driving a vehicle with the wrong plates. And that’s excluding towing and impound fees.

The sad part of the story is that we’ll never know what material was used to “craft” the front licence plate!
