Tesla’s New Carbon Brake Option Costs as Much as a Honda Civic
The Tesla Model S Plaid is the new flagship car from the electric car manufacturer, capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 2.1 seconds and achieving the quarter-mile in 9.23 seconds thanks to three electric motors that combine to generate 1,020 horsepower.
For those who still want more performance for the track, Tesla will soon offer a series of upgrades and accessories. The first item on the list is a carbon ceramic brake kit.

Yeah, we know, many sports cars are available with this type of brakes, which are stronger and more durable, but we’ve never seen any that were this expensive. Tesla Canada is asking $25,400 for the kit—the equivalent of a brand new 2022 Honda Civic!
Even the Model S Plaid’s arch nemesis, the Porsche Taycan Turbo/Turbo S, doesn’t charge nearly as much for carbon ceramic brakes. You’ll pay no more than $7,400 for the option.
“Designed for the ultimate track experience, the Model S Plaid Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit is a complete hardware package that delivers maximum, repeatable stopping power during high-performance driving,” Tesla says on its website.
The kit includes all-new carbon-silicon carbide rotors (410 mm at all four corners) that provide maximum high-temperature durability and heat management, one-piece forged callipers with six pistons up front and four pistons in the rear, high-performance pads and high-temperature brake fluid.
Available to order by mid-2022, the kit is only compatible with Model S Plaid vehicles equipped with 21-inch Arachnid wheels. Considering that the car starts at $169,990 (at the time of writing), what’s another $25,000?
