First Production GMC Hummer EVs Meet Their Owners

General Motors on Friday celebrated the production and deliveries of the first 2022 GMC Hummer EV pickups, a few weeks after the Rivian R1T became the first electric truck to officially hit the road.

The Edition 1 units pictured here are of course headed to U.S. customers. They’re the ones with three motors generating a combined 1,000 horsepower—good for 0-100 km/h sprints in just over three seconds—and a 24-module battery providing a GM-estimated 529 kilometres of range.

Priced at $112,595 USD, the Edition 1 is fully loaded and includes Super Cruise hands-free driving technology along with 4 Wheel Steer with CrabWalk diagonal-drive functionality. Every unit features a white exterior and a unique Lunar Horizon interior with special “Edition 1” badging.

The Hummer EV is built at GM’s Factory ZERO plant in Detroit alongside the equally new BrightDrop EV600 electric van. The latter will roll off the line at the soon-to-be-retooled CAMI Assembly in Ontario starting in November 2022.

“This is the first chapter for Ultium and for GM’s transition to a zero-emissions future,” said GM President Mark Reuss.

As for the first Hummer EV units for Canadian customers, they are scheduled to enter production next fall. Pricing has yet to be announced.

The Hummer EV pickup will be followed by the Hummer EV SUV, then the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV, also to be manufactured at Factory ZERO. Let’s not forget the Cadillac LYRIQ luxury crossover, which will come from Spring Hill, Tennessee, starting in the first half of 2022.
