Ontario Scraps Licence Plate stickers, Renewal Fees
Premier Doug Ford announced yesterday that the Province of Ontario will end the requirement for licence plate stickers and annual renewal fees starting March 13. Moreover, the province will refund the cost of stickers purchased over the past two years.
“We are eliminating licence plate renewal fees,” Premier Doug Ford announced Tuesday morning. “And scrapping the requirement to have a licence plate sticker for passenger vehicles, light-duty trucks, motorcycles and mopeds.”

Motorists in Southern Ontario will save an estimated $120 in annual fees, while motorists in Northern Ontario will save 60 $ per passenger vehicle, light-duty truck, motorcycle or moped.
“It’s not the government’s money — we’re just putting that back into your pocket,” Ford said. “You might be able to spend it a lot wiser than the government.”
Refund cheques should start going out in late March and through April, the government says.
The Premier also said that anyone who wants to get a refund must make sure their address is up to date by March 7 at ontario.ca/addresschange or by calling 1-888-333-0049.
Vehicle owners must pay any outstanding Highway 407 tolls and other municipal fines in order to get the refund. License plates will still need to be renewed every year or so - but this will be done at no cost and without a sticker.
