Chevy Silverado to Join Police Pursuit Vehicle Fleets in Canada, U.S.

Another Chevrolet vehicle is set to join the Tahoe for law enforcement duty. The Silverado PPV (Police Pursuit Vehicle) will be available beginning in late summer for police fleets in the U.S. and Canada.

This is in addition to the Silverado SSV (Special Service Vehicle) that we’ve previously told you about but isn’t specifically designed and rated for high-speed pursuit.

Based on the significantly updated 2022 Silverado, the new 2023 Silverado PPV is a crew-cab, short-bed (5’8”), four-wheel drive truck riding on Goodyear all-terrain tires and 20-inch steel wheels.

Under the hood is a 5.3-litre V8 engine that produces 355-horsepower through a 10-speed automatic transmission and benefits from a standard heavy-duty engine air filter for optimized performance. The brakes are beefed up with six-piston Brembo callipers up front and 16-inch rotors for increased durability.

To fill the non-pursuit needs of transporting trailers for marine and mounted divisions, the Silverado PPV comes standard with a 9,300-pound max towing capacity.

When police work means getting away from pavement, officers will be glad to have Rancho shocks from the Z71 off-road package, a locking rear differential, extra skid plate under the vehicle and available 2-inch lifted suspension for a best-in-class 11.35 inches of ground clearance, Chevrolet claims.

Naturally, Chevrolet offers a variety of specialty equipment options that enable easy upfitting. One of them is deletion of the front centre seat so departments can customize the cockpit to meet their needs. As for the cargo bed, it’s available with a hard tri-fold tonneau cover allowing weatherproof storage and the brand’s versatile Multi-Flex tailgate.

We only have one question: why not a police-spec Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 for chasing criminals all the way to remote locations?
