It’s Official: Toyota GR Supra is Getting a Manual Gearbox
Three years after its return to the market, the Toyota GR Supra will finally offer what many driving enthusiasts were clamouring for: a manual gearbox.
Toyota’s lead engineer for the car has repeatedly said in the past that there were no plans to add this option alongside the eight-speed automatic. However, the fans have spoken, and the company can’t ignore them anymore. Nor the fact that the new 2023 Nissan Z will be available with a manual transmission.

Also, a short press release from Toyota Europe mentions that “an all-new, tailor-made manual transmission is coming soon.” It’s been “developed to meet the demands of driving purists” as “something closer to the GAZOO Racing DNA that also enhances the driving experience.” The press release ends with #savethemanuals.
Another picture shows the back of the car with the new red-coloured "Supra" badge, which will become the signature of manual versions.
There are no more details available at this point. Toyota promises to reveal more information in the coming weeks. According to rumors, the world premiere of the manual GR Supra will take place as early as April 28.
Speaking of rumours, we’re hearing the stick-shift option will be exclusive to the six-cylinder engine, leaving customers who select the base four-cylinder mill with the eight-speed tranny. Keep following The Car Guide for all the latest on the Toyota GR Supra!
