All-New GMC Sierra EV to be Revealed October 20

Published on October 14, 2022 in Electric by Guillaume Rivard

We’ve known for over a year that GMC is preparing to introduce a more affordable and more reasonable alternative to the outlandish Hummer EV. The company released a first teaser in December 2021, and now there’s another one announcing the official debut.

That day is coming real soon. The all-new GMC Sierra EV will indeed be revealed on October 20—exactly two years after the Hummer EV. Coincidence? Of course not.

As you can see in the following clip, the electric pickup will debut, unsurprisingly, in top-line Denali trim:

We still don’t see a whole not, but we do get a clearer picture of the truck including the front fascia. The seats, roof and tailgate also make a brief appearance in the video.

From a technical standpoint, the battery-powered GMC Sierra will be similar to the aforementioned Hummer EV and even closer to the Chevrolet Silverado EV that was introduced last January and has already racked up more than 150,000 reservations. Expect a dual-motor configuration with up to 660 horsepower, 780 pound-feet of torque and 0-100 km/h acceleration in as little as 4.5 seconds or so. Less powerful variants will be available, too. As for maximum range, it could be somewhere around 640 kilometres.

Inevitably, advanced technologies like a 17-inch touchscreen, adaptive suspension and Super Cruise driving assist will be available. We bet GMC will also add an off-road model at some point, whether it’s called AT4 or something else.

In the case of the Silverado EV, Canadian pricing ranges from $52,448-$119,948 (plus $2,300 freight and PDI). The GMC Sierra EV should be a bit more expensive than that.

According to the teaser above, the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 launch model will arrive first in early 2024, followed by the regular Denali EV in the spring of 2024. Once again, pre-orders will begin immediately after the reveal, set to take place at 5 p.m. EDT on October 20. Watch this space for complete coverage of the new GMC Sierra EV.
