At the 2010 Canadian International AutoShow, Mazda Motor Corporation president and CEO, Takashi Yamanouchi, announced that North American sales of the 2011 Mazda2 will begin earlier than originally anticipated. Originally scheduled to launch late in the summer of 2010, the 2011 Mazda will now go on sale early in the summer of 2010.

"Since the Mazda2 made its debut at the Los Angeles auto show last December, we have had a tremendous response from consumers and our dealers in Canada and the United States," said Takashi Yamanouchi, president and CEO of Mazda Motor Corporation. "In response to this we have moved Job #1 forward and now the Mazda2 will be introduced early this summer."

In addition, interior details, preliminary specifications and images were also released. Further information regarding the exact specifications, trim grades and pricing of the 2011 Mazda2 will be released closer to the vehicle's on sale date.

Originally launched in 2007, the Mazda2 was first introduced in Europe, Japan and Australia. Since then, it has been highly acclaimed throughout the world, winning 48 automotive awards, including "Car of the Year" accolades in many markets and, most notably, the "2008 World Car of the Year." Total global sales of the Mazda2 have surpassed 400,000 units in the three years since its introduction.
