Mazda Announces 2024 CX-90 Pricing with Good News and Bad News
Mazda Canada has just announced pricing for the all-new 2024 CX-90, which will go on sale this spring. There’s good news and bad news for potential customers.
Let’s start with the bad. During the official introduction late last month, Mazda failed to mention that the new turbocharged 3.3-litre inline six-cylinder engine is less powerful on base models. The CX-90 GS (MSRP from $45,900), GS-L ($49,300) and GT ($55,350) generate 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft. of torque. At least they can make do with regular gasoline and burn as little as 9.3 L/100 km combined, according to Natural Resources Canada.

At the top of the lineup, the CX-90 GT-P ($59,300) and Signature ($63,300) feature a high-output variant of the straight-six that’s rated at 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft. of torque. Premium gasoline is recommended, but fuel consumption is barely higher at 9.5 L/100 km, surprisingly.
By the way, the outgoing CX-9’s turbo-four delivers no more than 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft., and pricing ranges from $42,050-$54,050. Although the price gap is significant, you have to remember that the CX-90 is a much more upscale and more sophisticated offering with extra content.
Standard features include i-activ all-wheel drive, the Mi-Drive selector (Normal, Sport, Off-Road modes), M-Hybrid Boost mild hybrid system and Kinematic Posture Control, a technology that first debuted on the MX-5 roadster and suppresses body lift on tight corners to enhance grip. Numerous i-Activsense safety and driver assistance systems are also included.
Let’s not forget the 18-inch dark grey alloy wheels, 10.25-inch centre display, tri-zone climate control and reclining/sliding second-row seats. The CX-90 GS-L adds leatherette, 19-inch wheels, a heated steering wheel, power liftgate and more. Optionally, the second row can be replaced by captain’s chairs. For 21-inch wheels, leather seats and head-up display, you need to turn to the GT model, which also boasts additional safety features.
Want the whole shebang? The CX-90 Signature offers maximum comfort and space for six passengers instead of seven, including heated/ventilated seats in the first two rows, suede-like fabric with unique hanging stitches, a larger digital instrument panel and centre display measuring 12.3 inches each, plus a Driver Personalization System with facial recognition.
CX-90 PHEV is Priced Just Right
Good news, the 2024 Mazda CX-90 with available plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology carries a base MSRP of $54,900, meaning it qualifies for a $2,500 rebate from the Canadian government (not $5,000 since EV range is limited at 42 km, below the required minimum of 50 km). Higher-end models including the CX-90 PHEV GS-L ($59,950) and PHEV GT ($64,350) are also eligible.
Provincial rebates apply, too, including $5,000 in Quebec and up to $2,000 in B.C.
The PHEV system combines a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and 17.8kWh lithium-ion battery for a total of 322 horsepower and 369 lb-ft. of torque. Inside, the CX-90 PHEV models offer seating for seven or eight as well as a standard 12.3-inch display.
