Project Mondo G is a Weird Mercedes G-Class in a Puffer Jacket

Mercedes-Benz has partnered with Moncler, the French-born, Italian-headquartered luxury fashion house known the world over for its puffer jackets, to create a very unique outfit for the no less famous G-Class SUV.

The result is a spectacular yet strange concept called Project Mondo G. It was unveiled at the Moncler “The Art of Genius” show during London Fashion Week yesterday.

“The collaboration with Moncler inspired us to create a real iconic sculpture on wheels—a very bold design statement,” said Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer at Mercedes-Benz Group AG. Based on our design philosophy Sensual Purity, this art piece merges extremely contrasting forms and surfaces: spacecraft shiny materials with a used patina look; strong geometry of the G-Class with organic forms of Moncler puffer jackets.”

The vehicle, which stands more than 2.8 metres tall and 3.4 metres wide including the wheels, is based on the iconic German luxury off-roader. The body has a patina effect as a visible trace of use, and it’s been largely modified to accommodate the new stance and top.

The entire roof and rear windows are covered in a Moncler puffer jacket-style suit, complete with a giant zipper down in the middle. The oversized wheels are similarly clad, giving the machine a monster truck look.

We bet the ride is extremely comfy, too. How great would it be to have something like that to tackle the rough weather and road conditions here in Canada?

According to Mercedes-Benz, this debut collaboration with Moncler “opens new horizons and a potential of opportunities for more news to come soon." That’s intriguing.
