2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 is Priced Above Most Competitors

Genesis has announced pricing for its third electric vehicle, the one the Korean luxury brand expects to become its best-seller, the 2023 Electrified GV70.

Unlike in the U.S., where an entry-level Advanced model is also available, Canadians have just the top-line Prestige model to choose from. It starts at $84,000, which is $5,000 more than a similarly equipped GV60 and $6,500 above the most expensive GV70 with a combustion engine. Obviously, no EV rebates from the government apply, at any level.

The Electrified GV70 is pretty much on par with the Audi Q8 e-tron, but costs more money than a bunch of competitors including the BMW iX, Cadillac LYRIQ, Mercedes-Benz EQB and Tesla Model Y.

What do you get for $84,000? Well, as with all Genesis vehicles, the price includes not only freight and PDI, but also complimentary maintenance, Genesis at Home valet service and Genesis Connected Services for five years or 100,000 km.

Based on the GV70 platform and not the GV60’s e-GMP architecture, the Electrified GV70 is more spacious than the latter while featuring the same dual-motor AWD powertrain rated at 429 hp and 516 lb-ft. of torque. Engaging the Boost mode allows for a 10-second burst of 483 hp—fantastic for highway merging and lightning-quick passing manoeuvres.

The maximum range enabled by the 77.4kWh battery has not been officially announced by Natural Resources Canada yet, but it is estimated at 236 miles (380 km) by the EPA in the U.S., which is roughly identical to that of the GV60 Performance. Genesis says fast charging from 10-80 percent in just 18 minutes is possible when using a 350kW DC charger.

Available in eight exterior colours, with the choice of two premium interior treatments (Obsidian Black Monotone or Glacier White Two Tone), the Electrified GV70 Prestige boasts white brake calipers, Michelin Primacy Tour A/S tires, electronically controlled suspension (with a camera scanning the road ahead to adjust the ride in real time) and 20-inch wheels. Let’s not forget the wide array of safety and driver assistance features, including Highway Driving Assist II with lane change assist capabilities.

Under the panoramic roof, the cabin features Nappa leather seating surfaces, microfibre suede headliner, 14.5-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch 3D instrument cluster, head-up display, active noise control, heated first- and second-row seats and exclusive mood lighting.

The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 goes on sale in Canada next month.
