Toyota Spices Up GR Corolla, GR 86 and GR Supra for 2024

The three sports cars representing Toyota’s Gazoo Racing (GR) performance outfit are getting special editions and cool new additions for the 2024 model year.

The hardest thing for customers will be to decide which one gets their hard-earned money. Let’s take a closer look, shall we?

2024 Toyota GR 86

We’ll start with the most affordable of the bunch, the GR 86. A new Performance Package brings suspension and braking upgrades in the form of ZF SACHS dampers and Brembo brakes, the latter featuring red-painted callipers with four pistons up front. This pack will be standard on the equally new TRUENO Edition.

TRUENO? Yep, as in Sprinter Trueno, which is how Japanese called the 1984-1987 Corolla Sport GT-S liftback, better known under its chassis codename AE86 and turning 40 in 2024. Available in a choice of Halo and black or Track Red and black, the special edition will be limited to 50 units in Canada, all equipped with a manual transmission. A numbered plate on the driver’s side dash will mark its rarity.

A black-wrapped hood, black TRUENO Edition side panel graphic and black-painted duckbill spoiler paired to either Halo or Track bRed colours give the model its two-tone look. In a tribute to the 1980’s model that inspired its design, the car wears a TRUENO Edition badge on the front bumper lip and rear decklid. Additional accents include unique 18-inch alloy wheels finished in black metallic along with black door handles and mirror caps.

The interior grabs the attention with Ultrasuede sport seats featuring red leather, a red-stitched shift boot and leather-wrapped steering wheel. A TRUENO Edition shift knob and all-weather floor/trunk mats also make up the package. The engine is the same, though, namely a naturally aspirated 2.4-litre four-cylinder producing 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft. of torque. The 2024 GR 86 TRUENO Edition will be available next winter, with pricing to be announced closer to launch.

Oh, and by the way, manual transmission-equipped models receive an Active Safety Suite that was previously available on automatic models only. It uses a stereo camera to monitor the road ahead and includes features like Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Sway Warning, Lead Vehicle Start Alert and High Beam Assist. Excellent news.

2024 Toyota GR Supra

For 2024, Toyota pays tribute to the Supra’s glorious history with an eye-popping 45th Anniversary Edition limited to 45 units in Canada. Mirroring the 1990’s models, it will be available exclusively in a deep orange colour called Plasma Orange.

Built on the 3.0 Premium grade, which packs a turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine outputting 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft. of torque, this GR Supra’s low-slung design is complemented by a large, manually adjustable rear spoiler. Rising about 100 mm above the rear decklid, the spoiler has an adjustment screw that allows drivers to change its angle and influence the amount of downforce being applied to rear wheels.

Speaking of which, the 45th Anniversary Edition also features matte-black 19-inch aluminum wheels along with black-painted opposite mounted brake calipers that wear a GR logo up front. A black side panel graphic with a cutout Supra logo sweeps upward along the side, accentuating the vehicle’s contours. What’s more, the engine is flanked by exclusive Plasma Orange strut tower braces.

GR Supra 45th Anniversary models are expected to arrive at Toyota dealerships this fall. Once again, pricing details are not immediately known.

2024 Toyota GR Corolla

As for the GR Corolla hot hatch, the Circuit Edition returns for 2024. This time it adds a Blue Flame colour choice for a head-turning look, complete with black side rocker graphics that run up to the stamped GR-Four logo. An Ice Cap hue rounds out the available choices.

Black forged aluminum 18-inch BBS wheels come standard, similar to the lighter wheels mounted on the 2023 MORIZO Edition. Meanwhile, aero updates include an addition of aluminum sheets to the front and rear bumpers, as well as a change in duct shape to the front bumper airflow outlet.

Inside, look for Brin Naub Suede and synthetic leather-trimmed sport seats with blue accents, a unique blue-striped GR shift knob and blue accent stitching. A JBL premium audio system with eight speakers and an amplifier is also standard.

Under the bulging hood of the GR Corolla Circuit Edition is still the turbocharged1.6-litre 3-cylinder engine that delivers 300 horsepower and 273 lb-ft. of torque. Just like all GR Corolla models, it is exclusively paired with a six-speed manual gearbox featuring rev matching, plus a GR-FOUR all-wheel drive system that can adjust front/rear torque distribution from 60:40 to 50:50 and then to 30:70.

The 2024 GR Corolla Circuit Edition will be available next winter. Guess what? We can tell you about pricing already. Just kidding.
