Chevy Corvette Z06 Sets New Lap Record at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

We at The Car Guide often write about cars setting new lap records on Germany’s legendary Nürburgring, but what about race tracks right here in Canada?

Here’s something you need to know: back in late May, the new 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 became the fastest production vehicle to ever lap the famed Canadian Tire Motorsport Park—better known as Mosport—in Bowmanville, Ontario.

With renowned driver Ron Fellows behind the wheel, a Corvette Z06 equipped with the Z07 Performance Package lapped the 3.957-km course in only 1:22.12. Chevy shared a video of the record-setting lap, captured on the Corvette’s available Performance Data Recorder:

“Setting a new production lap record at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in the new Corvette Z06 is a monumental achievement for me,” Fellows said. “This track holds a special place in my heart, and I feel incredibly privileged to have done this in partnership with Chevrolet and the Corvette team.”

“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Ron Fellows on his astounding accomplishment,” said James Hodge, Chevrolet Brand Director for Canada. “This new lap record serves as a testament to the unwavering dedication and collaborative spirit shared by Ron and Chevrolet. Together, we have solidified the Corvette's position at the forefront of high-performance sports cars, and we take great pride in this remarkable achievement."

With 670 horsepower and 460 lb-ft. of torque on tap, the 2023 Z06 was the fastest Corvette ever built until the company introduced the gas-electric 2024 Corvette E-Ray earlier this year. Its hand-assembled 5.5-litre LT6 engine is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 to hit the market in any production car, ever.

By the way, the Z07 Performance Package includes a carbon fibre aero package, unique FE7 suspension with specific Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 calibrations, Michelin Sport Cup 2 R ZP tires developed specifically for the Z06, as well as Brembo carbon ceramic brakes featuring larger discs (398 mm front, 391 mm rear).
