Finally There’s a Lucid Air for Just $100K in Canada

Lucid Motors is still a few years away from introducing entry-level vehicles that would take on the hugely popular Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, but the California-based EV maker today announced a new Pure RWD variant of its Air luxury sedan starting at just $99,500 (excluding $2,300 destination and other fees).

The five-figure tag also means this particular model won’t be hit by the Canadian luxury tax that applies to all new vehicles priced from $100,000.

Maximum range is estimated by Lucid at 659 km, though the official EPA rating is 674 km—more than any competitor except for other Air models. Naturally Resources Canada has yet to post its own rating, which should be similar if not identical. About 240 km can be regained in less than 12 minutes at a DC fast charger thanks to the car being able to charge at up to 250 kW.

The Air Pure RWD uses a new 88kWh battery pack that happens to be the most compact ever featured in a Lucid. Output and torque amount to 430 horsepower and 406 lb-ft., respectively, while 0-100 km/h acceleration is achieved in 4.7 seconds.

Standard content includes a 34-inch curved display with Lucid UX infotainment and OTA updates, heated front and rear seats, the DreamDrive suite of advanced driver assistance systems, as well as 19-inch wheels (range-limiting 20-inch wheels are optional). Oh, and Lucid offers two-year complimentary charging at Electrify Canada fast chargers.

Major Price Cuts

If you’d rather buy another Air model, and pay a luxury tax in the process, you should know that prices have been slashed dramatically. For example, the Air Pure AWD with 480 horsepower now starts at $106,000, a drop of $19,500.

The 620-horsepower Air Touring costs $126,700 instead of $146,000, while the Grand Touring and its 819 horsepower can be yours from $167,600 rather than $210,000. That’s huge. With the Performance package, which boosts output to 1,050 horsepower, the price is set at $197,600, down from $242,000.

The crown jewel in the lineup remains the Air Sapphire—the one with 1,234 horsepower and 0-100 km/h sprints in just two seconds—for a cool $325,000.

Lucid currently operates stores in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
