Dodge to Make 1,025-Horsepower Demon 170 V8 Available as Crate Engine

Here’s some exciting news for tuning enthusiasts looking to drop an extremely potent engine under the hood of their latest build: Dodge’s performance products brand, Direct Connections, will make the insane 2023 Challenger SRT Demon 170’s supercharged 6.2-litre V8 available for purchase starting in the first quarter of next year.

In other words, the mightiest of all HEMIs is not going extinct just yet.

The fully assembled Hellephant C170 6.2L Supercharged Crate HEMI Engine includes the C170 Long Block and features a new 3.0-litre IHI supercharger with improved intercooler, larger snout and a 3.02-inch pulley for increased boost, a 105mm throttle body with new housing, blade, shaft and geartrain.

In the Demon 170, this engine produces up to 1,025 horsepower and 845 lb-ft. of torque when running on E85 fuel—good for 0-60 mph (97 km/h) sprints in just 1.66 seconds and a quarter-mile run in 8.91 seconds. The numbers drop to 900 horsepower and 810 lb-ft. when using premium gasoline, which still defies logic.

The Hellephant C170 6.2L Supercharged Crate HEMI Engine is listed at $27,695 USD, or approximately $38,400 CAD—nearly as much as a brand new Dodge Hornet. Electric Muscle Car Could Have ICE Variant

In related news, it seems the electric muscle car based on the Charger Daytona SRT concept will coexist with an ICE variant for a while. That’s according to The Drive, which last week received information from a source at a supplier with firsthand knowledge of Dodge’s production plans.

The new gas-powered muscle car, available in RWD and AWD configurations, will reportedly feature Stellantis’ new twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, dubbed “Hurricane.”

Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis previously said that the STLA Large platform could technically accommodate both electric motors and internal combustion engines, adding weight to the report. Hopefully the company will make an official announcement before the end of the year. We’ll keep you posted.
