Dodge Durango Bids Farewell to V8 With “Last Call” Special Editions

Published on January 10, 2024 in News by Guillaume Rivard

Following the lead of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, which have already moved on, as well as the Ram 1500, which will do the same for 2025, the Dodge Durango is about to bid farewell to the legendary HEMI V8.

“Just as we did with the Dodge Charger and Challenger, it’s time to celebrate the V8 HEMI engine that has powered Dodge domination of the performance SUV segment,” Dodge brand CEO Tim Kuniskis said. “Special-edition ‘Last Call’ models of the Durango will roll out during 2024 as we honor the most powerful SUV ever.”

The first of these is the 2024 Durango SRT 392 AlcHEMI. Available in Diamond Black, Destroyer Grey, Vapor Grey or White Knuckle, the vehicle is based on the SRT 392 Premium model, which normally costs around $100,000 including freight and PDI.

Dodge adds 20-inch Satin Black forged SRT wheels, yellow-painted SRT Brembo brakes, Satin Black “392” vinyl fender decals with yellow accents, honeycomb-textured dual exterior stripes with yellow-accent borders, black exhaust tips, as well as Midnight Metallic grille and liftgate badges.

Inside, look for yellow and silver stitching, SRT “392” logo embroidered on the seatbacks, a leather and suede steering wheel featuring a white LED SRT logo, plus forged carbon fibre interior accents. There are no changes under the hood, so the 6.4-litre HEMI V8 delivers the same 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.

Canadian pricing and availability for the 2024 Dodge Durango SRT 392 AlcHEMI will be announced at a later date. Don’t waste your time, though, because only 100 units will be made for customers on this side of the border including 25 each of the four available exterior colours.

Other special-edition “Last Call” models of the Durango—some of which will be sold as 2025 models—will be introduced throughout 2024. Expect the final one to feature the supercharged 6.2-litre “Hellcat” V8 that produces a class-leading 710 horsepower.

Next year and beyond, the Durango will go with six cylinders exclusively, replacing the V8 with Stellantis’ new twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine. The latter comes in two configurations including a High Output version generating at least 510 horsepower.
