The Best Electric Cars in 2024
The electric car market is not the same in 2024 as it was last year. The Chevrolet Bolt EV/Bolt EUV and Kia Soul EV are gone, while Fiat is bringing back the 500 in Canada as a fully electric vehicle. As for the best-selling Tesla Model 3, it recently underwent a first major update and looks more attractive than ever.
That being said, three other cars occupy the top spots in the segment according to our team at The Car Guide. They represent the best buys for Canadian customers in 2024.

Now in its sophomore year, the electric sedan from South Korea continues to be a disruptor with unorthodox styling and tremendous value. Featuring an extremely aerodynamic silhouette, the IONIQ 6 maximizes range to the point where the RWD variant achieves 581 km. Models with AWD deliver 320 hp and 446 lb-ft. of torque and can still cover up to 509 km on a full charge.
Despite the swooping roofline, the interior proves quite spacious and also has decent storage, although the trunk opening is tight. We also love the car’s ergonomics and user-friendly displays.
2. BMW i4
Unsurprisingly, BMW’s compact electric sedan impresses with excellent handling and build quality. It’s a dynamic and athletic car, even more so in top-line M50 xDrive trim. Then there’s the racy exterior, classy and functional cockpit, super-comfortable seats and convenient rear hatch. Second-row occupants enjoy limited space, mind you, especially due to the massive centre tunnel that frankly doesn’t belong in an EV.
For 2024, a fourth model joins the lineup. Only the two with RWD are eligible to a $5,000 rebate from the Canadian government. The i4 eDrive40 offers 335 horsepower and 484 km of range, giving you plenty of bang for your buck.
3. Polestar 2
This high-riding, rugged-looking sedan stands out with attractive Scandinavian styling and great driving dynamics. It’s also practical with a rear hatch and a clean, ergonomic interior where the Android-based infotainment system takes centre stage. What’s more, pricing is reasonable and braking performance blows away the competition.
The Polestar 2 does have a firm ride and a significant thirst for electrons that affects range. Officially, you can still expect to travel up to 515 km in single-motor configuration (now with RWD instead of AWD) and 444 km in dual-motor configuration.
