Next-Generation Mazda CX-5 to Offer Hybrid Variant

Published on May 15, 2024 in News by Martin Dion

It’s official: the next generation of the Mazda CX-5 will include a hybrid powertrain as an option. The announcement was made as part of the company’s latest earnings call.

Will it be a standard hybrid or a plug-in hybrid? That we don’t know for now. The larger CX-70 and CX-90 are available as PHEVs. On the other hand, the CX-50 is expected to get a regular hybrid treatment for 2025.

The Hiroshima-based automaker will finally have an answer to all those compact SUVs offering a gas-electric variant, from the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 to the Dodge Hornet and Mitsubishi Outlander.

The next-gen CX-5 is projected to launch in 2025 and will be developed completely in-house, which is a significant move for Mazda.

The first fully electric Mazda to be built on a dedicated EV architecture, meanwhile, should be ready around 2027.
